Sewing Shadow Box

Julie is amazing. In her shop you will find many of her beautiful holiday shadow box designs heavily embellished. Each time you look at one, you'll see something different. When she said she was designing a sewing themed shadow box, I signed up sight unseen and we spent all night in class completing our box. In the kit, she provides materials to decopage the frame such as vintage doilies, rick-rack, miniature pattern pictures, zippers and various sewing notions. Inside the box, we glued ribbons and flowers around a sewing print on a silk and material crazy pieced backing. We each brought our own collection of sewing notions to incorporate into our own creation. Many of the things I used are nostalgic hand-me-downs from my mom and others we stitched up during class such as the pincushion and needlebook. I could not locate a fabric tape measure to antique dye. So I checked with mom and then she asked her next door neighbor who had a perfect one that was worn and tattered that I could have. My new work of sewing art is hanging in the hallway right outside of my craft room welcoming those who enter.
